Dear colleagues, partners,
To whom this may concern,
As some of you might have known, I am a hospitality graduate from one of Australia’s leading hotel schools. When I had the chance to choose the next institution for my postgraduate program, I also picked another Australian institution. I know I might sound a little biased, but the connections that I have had from Australia have helped me so much with my career and personal development.
There are about 100 Australian education institutions that offer hospitality degrees and courses and Vietnam ranks fourth in number of international students studying in Australia 2020. By the end of 2020, the total number of Vietnamese students enrolling at educational institutions in Australia reached more than 24,000. I keep wondering what percentage is the number of Australian hospitality graduates each year amongst all majors? What happens to these Australian Alumni after graduation and during Covid-19?
In 2014, I came up with the idea of building the Australian Hospitality Alumni Network in Vietnam with the purpose of building a platform for Australian hospitality graduates to connect them to the right resources of information and support for their career opportunities and growth. I had invested time and resources in my early 20s to create the logo, vision, mission and some basic social media tools, however, due to lack of experience, time and support, I had to abandon the project for a long time.
Then here we are, the coronavirus pandemic has caused millions of workers to lose their jobs or have working hours reduced. With the hospitality and tourism industry is considered as ‘the biggest loser’ amongst other industries in this global crisis, I believe that our alumni who remain in the industry and students will need help than ever. I do find this a perfect time for us to reunite and create a community that makes sustainable impacts on the industry.
I am making my official call to all hospitality professionals, hoteliers, investors, educators, Australian alumni who are part of the Australia-Vietnam hospitality & tourism network – You are most welcome to be part of the project, as an alumnus, a community leader, an expert, a sponsor or a partner.
Please feel free to reach out to me directly and/or to join our Social Media network today to receive further updates.
